Quick Games
Below are listed a few simple games that not only highlight the use of
team building principles but can be used by you in the office today.
There should be a law
A simple exercise for individuals, pairs, or a whole group: the
aim is for each participant to suggest a new law and their reasons
for it. The game can be extended into a clear-communications and
writing exercise by asking the participant to write their new law
in terms that explain it absolutely clearly, with minimum leeway
for misunderstanding or misinterpretation. The clarity of the writing
can be tested by group questions and review. This exercise is particularly
useful for people who could benefit from improved awareness of communicating,
delegating and briefing skills.
Where does your name come from?
Share the story of where your name comes from and what your name
means. This is especially appropriate for international and multi-cultural
workforces. It can foster better understanding and communication
among colleagues.
Three things you didn't know about me are
Each participant writes down three things about themselves on a
piece a paper. Two of the items should be things you suspect some
of your colleagues may already know, while the third should be one
that nobody knows. All pieces of paper and folded (so nobody can
see what the other participants have written) and are passed to
the coordinator. One by one each of the items are read out. After
each one the group has to guess who it was about. This exercise
encourages greater awareness and understanding among colleagues
and is great for multi-cultural departments. This exercise works
best with smaller groups and with participants who already work
together.
